Transgender FTM Hair Loss Treatment

Testosterone hormone replacement therapy can cause hair loss in FTM patients. There are several ways of treating hair loss in FTM patients including medication and laser comb and hair transplant surgery.

Rogaine (Minoxidil)

Rogaine is available in a solution or foam and is clinically proven to regrow hair in 85% of men who use it twice daily. It contains the FDA-approved topical ingredient minoxidil which works to enlarge shrunken hair follicles and promote normal healthy hair growth over time. Rogaine is available without a prescription from a doctor and generic forms with the same active ingredient are available at most pharmacies.

Propecia (Finasteride)

Propecia is a one-a-day pill that is approved by the FDA for the treatment of certain types of male pattern hair loss in men. Finasteride, the active ingredient in Propecia significantly reduces DHT (Dihydrotestosterone), a key cause of hair loss, by inhibiting the formation of DHT in your scalp. Propecia is only available with a prescription from a doctor.

HairMax Laser Comb

The HairMax Laser Comb provides a safe, convenient and non invasive way to stop hair loss and promote hair growth! Using laser energy, the comb stimulates hair follicles to improve growth speed and hair thickness. The HairMax Laser Comb is available without a prescription and is an effective way to fight hair loss.

Hair Transplant Surgery

For many, our hair transplant surgery is the most effective way to treat hair loss. While hair transplant surgery may be more expensive initially, the overall results are better and more permanent. Medications and the laser comb require continued usage or the regrown hair will fall out 3-4 months after discontinued use.
